A few years ago, I presented a conference for the Vice Mayor Pro Tem of Houston, Jerry V Davis. He was passionate about getting programs into one of Houston’s neediest areas, District B. I presented on technology and my pitch at the time was go to college and get a STEM degree. My pitch is still basically the same, but I have added a more practical component, which is learn 3D CAD and/or coding now.
5 Reasons Why it is important for kids from low income households to learn 3D CAD?
For the purposes of this post I will discuss the importance 3D CAD. Here are may main reasons.
It is relatively easy for a very young person to start learning. I had to be convinced of this by my late brother who spent several years in Houston’s 3rd ward teaching 3rd and 4th graders how to design in 3d cad. Within a year child at this level with no prior exposure were design in 3D CAD. I am working on a project to continue his work. Stay tuned for more on this on my site.
It is practical. Any company that makes anything needs a design. They have to hire a drafter to develop this design.
It is well paid. 3D CAD drafters make good money. You can search the web for the latest salaries, but it not uncommon for drafters to may salary similar to that of a nurse, even without a bachelor’s degree.
It is the future. 3D Printing, Augmented reality and Virtual Reality all depend on 3D CAD. It is very likely to be a growing space with more demand for those people who know how to do it.
It is entrepreneurial. CAD drafters are like contractors they can work on a project basis. This kind of job is great for people who want to open their own consulting firms. You do not need a lot of overhear and you can work from home.
